Soaring Like an Eagle – Part I

The Eagle

I congratulate you today as we celebrate the beginning of the New Year 2008. I welcome you to a New Year of Glorious Exploits for as many that are ready to commit themselves to the course of their destiny and prepared to work at it unto great fulfillment.

I present to you today the very first in a 5-part series on the life of an Eagle which I believe will be of great help in understanding the leaps and heights you can potentially attain this year if you learn from the eagle’s lifestyle. The eagle is a peculiar creature having special qualities that distinguishes it from other birds. I have come to discover that, in life where there seems to be a struggle for some, it is an effortless venture for others; where it’s a big battle for a large lot, a select few find it very easy! What makes the difference or what distinguishes the former from the latter?

I want to take a cue from the life of an eagle to show the difference and believe that we would find this information useful in our daily life as we chart the course of this fresh year. We can channel a path through this or discover the necessary adjustments to make in order to move from one side of the divide to the other. One thing is certain, more than 70% of the world would have a definite goal or resolution for this year but just about 20% of this will actually succeed in accomplishing these goals. Are you going to be part of the 20%?

A careful study of some characteristics that distinguishes the Eagle from other birds will help to answer this.

  • Some of the qualities that make the Eagle to stand out include; seven and a half feet wide wings which it uses to soar, they are born with their mouths and eyes looking into the sun, they have two set of eyelids. These eyelids perform separate functions; one is used for hunting while the other is used for flying directly into the sun. They have very sharp eyesight which enables them to see as far as eleven and a half kilometers away (11.5Km)
  • From the few characteristics above, the following can be deduced:
    • With wings as wide as seven and a half feet, the mother Eagle is able to train her eaglets by carrying them on her wings in flight. This implies, they are ready to take responsibility and have been able to master the use of their unique innate and physical characteristics. As human beings, we all have one or more gifts, a skill, talent(s) that need to be tapped and mastered. This is what will really distinguishes us from the rest – remember, the gift of a human makes room for him/her.
    • because the Eagle knows his position in the kingdom of birds, it does not fly really, but soars by leveraging on the power of the wind to move to heights that cannot be reached or attained by other birds. In comparing this trait to human beings, being ignorant of our right and capabilities can rob us of the potential height we can attain in life.
    • The Eagle has two set of eyelids – one is used to chart his course directly facing the sun. This ability is very unique because no other bird can do this. We all have special talents and gifts that can be developed by practice and is capable of setting us apart for excellence in our sphere of influence. We all need to identify, build and use this in order to soar in this year.
    • The Eagle has a very sharp eyesight – an eye for the smallest of details from afar. This implies that, it knows how to multitask the use of its second eyelid as well as its eyes for hunting. In our lives, we need an eye for detail to recognise opportunities from afar before they become obvious to all. That is how we can truly be part of the effective 20% this year; taking advantage of a golden opportunity before it becomes open to all. By doing this, we would well be on our way to soar like the eagle because of this gift.

Taking charge of our life is very vital and our rising is a function of how early we face this responsibility. Welcome to a New Year of great possibilities.
